Langsett Spotty Caf (Grade 2)

I had to have ride to the famous Spotty Cafe - the Bank view Langsett - painted with red polka dots of the 'King of Mountain jersey' for the when the 2014 Tour de France passed by. This is an entry level Grade 2 ride but taken at grade 1 pace. We head out up past Wadsley and Worrall climbing north above High Bradfield. We then have a downhill run to Broomhead Reservoir before tackling our steepest climb up to Bolsterstone then a gentle climb up Long Lane, before arriving at Langsett Reservoir and the Cafe. Plenty of seating both inside and outside. Afterwards a short sharp hill before we start the generally downhill run all the way back to Sheffield, enjoying the TPT and Don Valley Trail. Hard packed surfaces so ok for road bike tyres but you might before a gravel bike if you have one. 31 miles (49 km) 2,342ft (714m) of ascent.

The short version of Paul Wilson's ride to the Toll Barr chippy. We leave Millhouses Park at 6pm to get to the chippy with plenty of time before they close. It is a straight crawl (for me at any rate) up Abbeydale road to Owler Bar roundabout where we will pause a while. Then down towards Barlow turning off onto Clodhall Lane and Kingsgate, through Calver to Stoney Middleton. Rewarded with excellent fish and chips of course!! Finally returning back up Froggatt Hill. TRACKBED POOTLE GRADE 2
5 July 2026 9:30 am - 5:00 pm
Meadowhead, Norton Lane, Opposite St James Retail Park
Trackbed Pootle (Grade 2)
Starts 9:30 am Meadowhead, Norton Lane opposite St James Retail Park
Leader: Ken Alvey 07952 290032
This a little celebration ride as I go down memory lane. In 2020 I bought a bike to take up cycling as a hobby, only occasional commuting cycling before. In the first year I could only manage about 15 miles then gradually increased this up to 50 miles by 2022. But for all 3yrs, all my rides were on off road trails NEVER on the road. This ride is a medley of some of the local trails I rode, some linked together with short road sections. All good celebrations need a memento so I will give out a Peak Audax style cloth badge to all riders at the lunch stop. Many thanks to Paul Ward who has done an excellent job in creating this badge. Paul runs his own creative design business.
Most of the ride is off road, mainly on good quality packed surfaces and a little on tarmac. A gravel bike is best if you have one but a road bike should be ok. We head out from Meadowhead to Unstone to join the TPT at Staverley after a section along the canal and then travel along the mashup of old railway line trackbeds: Midlands Railway, 5 Pits Trail, Silverhill Trail, Teversal Trail, Rowthorne Trail, Archaeological Way and Clowne Branch Line. Trackbeds were built for trains and so very rarely exceed 3% gradient, 5 Pits Trail being the exception of course! Sadly, in places bridges have been knocked down causing the trail to have a steep descent and a steep ascent back onto the trackbed. Lunch will be at Teversal visitor centre (39K) with an optional toilet stop at Renishaw Hall (78K) Distance is at the grade 2 upper limit but for Sheffield it is comparatively low on climbing. I will be taking it at a gentle pace because a lot of the ride is on shared access paths where we have to be slow and courteous to walkers/horse riders. As the ride name suggests a relaxed, enjoyable ride as we Pootle along. Hopefully basked in glorious sunshine!
Also please don't use flashing lights within the group out of respect for others.

This is an upper grade 2 ride at 1100m of ascent for those who might be thinking about bridging from Saturday to Sunday rides but taken at a very gentle pace. Lots of stopping and regrouping. No one left behind.
Starting at the Lilliputian Grenoside Village Cafe (outside tables) on the junction of Main Street and Norfolk Hill and heading along the familiar Woodhead Road to Wortley and Finkle Street (caution on both due to potholes). Up the scenic route to Green Moor and dropping down to Langsett Reservoir where there is an early opportunity for a cafe stop at the Spotty Cafe (11 miles), or pushing on to Midhope and Low Bradfield for The School Rooms cafe (lots out outside tables if a nice day)(19.5 miles). From there it is onto Dungworth where if you had tummy room you could have an Our Cow Molly ice cream. Then towards Stannington, Loxley, Worrall, and dropping down before finishing on the majestic Cote de Oughtibridge into Grenoside, a sort of recce of the TdF Femme 2027. There is however the option to leave in Oughtibridge on the flat Beeley Woods route to Hillsborough or take the more gentle gravel route through Wharncliffe Woods to where we started in Grenoside.

Olde House Chesterfield (Grade 1)
Starts: 6.00pm Millhouses Park Cafe
Leader: Ken Alvey 07952 290032
We head out through Millhouses Park to avoid the busy Abbeydale Road with all the traffic rushing home. Then head up Abbey Lane and Bocking Lane to Lower Bradway. Through Mickley, Cowley and Barlow before dropping down to Olde House in Chesterfield for great food and coffee/drinks. Quick return back through Unstone and Coal Aston before arriving at Millhouse Park. Sunset should be about 9pm so please bring lights as it may be getting dark for the end of the ride.
Also I would politely ask, please don't use flashing lights within the group out of respect for others.
19 miles (31 km) 1,305ft (398 m) of ascent.
