‘Two Sunderland supporters on tour and on fire in Southwest France’
with Dave Hawdon and Jeremy Abrahams
It was 40°C when the train pulled into Bordeaux at 6.30 pm. And the next day it got hotter. Why did they go? Did their tyres burst into flames? Did one of them nearly collapse and have to be rescued? How come the riot police were on the streets of Lille outside their hotel? How on earth did they still have a great time? What secret of literary history did they solve? Did they ride all the way up to St. Malo? And what is upsetting them right now? Come and find out the answers to these questions and lots more with photo illustration and (potentially) hilarious jokes.

‘The Life Cycle / The Carbon Cycle’
Dr Kate Rawles will talk to us about her two epic rides through the Americas. ‘The Carbon Cycle’ – a 4,553 miles ride from Texas to Alaska, following the spine of the Rockies and exploring North American attitudes to climate change in one of the most oil-intensive countries on earth. ‘The Life Cycle’ – 8,000 miles through South America on a bike made of bamboo to explore biodiversity loss. She might even bring the bamboo bike with her …
Kate is a former university philosophy lecturer and now a freelance writer, lecturer and environmental campaigner. She is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. Read more here: https://www.outdoorphilosophy.co.uk/ She will be bringing copies of her books to sell.
I am really delighted we’re able to bring Kate to Sheffield. This will be something very different to our usual fare – not one to be missed!

British Cycle Quest (BCQ)
Stephen Dee, who organises and administers British Cycle Quest for Cycling UK, will be here to tell us and show us what BCQ is, how you can get involved, and talk about his own 12,000 mile journey to every corner of the country to complete it. Plus a special presentation involving one of our very own!
From the Cycling UK website:
‘The British Cycle Quest is a challenge you’ve got the rest of your life to complete – there are no time limits – and you’re on your way as soon as you’ve cycled down the road and located your very first checkpoint.
Checkpoints are scattered throughout England, Wales and Scotland, including many islands. Wherever you are, you’ll most likely find one or two checkpoints within cycling range. It’s all about getting outside and cycling to find as many points of interest across the whole of Britain as you can.’
