A flat start to the ride along 5 Weirs Walk and then the canal into Rotherham. We cut across Rotherham via Valley Park leaving on Little Common Road. Up through the scenic countryside on Royds Moor Hill into Laughton-en-le-Morthen to the lovely Leger Lakes Tearoom. Afterwards a relaxed return through Treeton and Catcliffe to Castle gate.

Meet at Millhouses Park Cafe, by the boating lake, for a socially-paced ride out to enjoy the spectacular views from Apperknowle, returning via Troway. The route has some quite challenging hills that will be taken at a very steady pace, regrouping frequently. We will stop for refreshments at the Wards of Troway farm cafe. Approx. 20 miles and just over 500m of ascent.

Blacker Hall Farm (Grade 2)

The ride starts from The Foundry (Wetherspoons) at Meadowhall and takes us to the Farm Shop which has a large covered courtyard eating area where we can consume delicious hot sandwiches, drinks and cakes from the hatch or shop itself.
We will return via Woolley Edge view point where we will can stop to admire Emley Moor. The route will return to Meadowhall via Grenoside, but riders can choose to jump on the TPT at Silkstone  or return via Hillsborough etc.
Return distance back to Meadowhall is 50 miles with around 1,165m  of climbing.

Olde House Chesterfield (Grade 1)

We head out through Millhouses Park to avoid the busy Abbeydale Road with all the traffic rushing home.  Then head up Abbey Lane and Bocking Lane to Lower Bradway.  Through Mickley, Cowley and Barlow before dropping down to Olde House in Chesterfield for great food and coffee/drinks.  Quick return back through Unstone and Coal Aston before arriving at Millhouse Park. Sunset should be about 9pm so please bring lights as it may be getting dark for the end of the ride.

Starting at Depot, Hillsborough Park we will head out  towards Stannington and Dungworth, Low Bradfield, past Agden reservoir and up to Bolsterstone. From there we will drop to Stocksbridge and wind up again towards Cubley and Penistone where we will stop for lunch at Julie's cafe. After lunch we'll get on the lovely flat TPT and take it all the way to Oughtibridge, hop onto the Upper Don Trail through Beeley Wood to Wadsley and finish up at Hillsborough via the bike path.
I'd say 28mm tyres would be the minimum for Plank Gate but there is the option of Manchester Road but it's not too pleasant.

Over Burbage and down to Hope followed by the climb through Edale to Mam Nick. Through Chapel-en-le-Frith for a loop through Whaley Bridge that includes Peak Forest Canal and Goyt Way. Lunch will be either in Whaley Bridge or on the second visit to Chapel en le Frith. A climb over Peaslows will lead us to Sparrowpit and the return through Peak Forest, Tideswell and Abney. Please bring snacks as there are long sections without refreshment stops.

The Old Stables Cafe, Silkstone Common (Grade 2)

The route starts climb up to Grenoside via Herries Road and Wordsworth Avenue, avoiding the busy main Penistone Road/Halifax road dual carriageway. There’s a further climb through Greno Woods, before the descent to Wortley. A sharp descent and  a series of switchbacks through pleasant country lanes takes us to Silkstone Common and the Old Stables Cafe. The return starts with a long climb back to the A629. A three mile stretch along the A629 takes us back to Wortley. Although a main road, it’s not busy and there a good views along its length. After Wortley we turn off along the Woodhead Road to retrace our route back to Grenoside. The route finishes with  spectacular descent down Jawbone Hill and a pleasant spin through Beeley Woods back to the Halifax Road and a cycle path to the bottom main entrance of Hillsborough Park. 25 miles 2,000ft Ascent

A longer Grade 2 ride with lots of 'flat' lanes and a few short hills out to our local Shire Oak on the Yorks/Notts/Derbys meeting point, past the diminutive Norman Steetley Chapel (31km), and round to Woodsetts (38km) and Oldcotes (46km). 
We might stop at Cup+Co for lunch, or if not, Manor Farm. Return Firbeck Ulley etc.
Please bring a snack as we'll pause for a short break at or before Steetley.

Calver Bridge (Grade 1+)

Arrive at 9am if you want a coffee/pastry before the ride. We will set off at 9:30. We will head up to Ringinglow village then along Sheephill and upwards again to Stony Ridge Road. We take the long decent down past Froggatt and then left along Riddings Lane. This will take us Calver Bridge, where we will stop ay Matilda’s Eating House for refreshments. After the café stop we will retrace our steps, then go along the Derwent Valley to Grindleford. We will then take the longest climb of the ride up Padley. From Foxhouse we will take the decent back down to Sheephill and Ringinglow village. A social ride with some hills but will be taken at a steady pace with regular regrouping.
19 miles/30km, 1,1745ft/534m ascent.

This is not a long ride but the climbing makes it borderline Grade 3. Over Fox House and down through Grindleford to climb steadily through Eyam, Litton, Tideswell and Wheston. Up down and up again to eventually descend steeply down Pindale. Lunch in Hope is over 26 miles from the start, so bring a snack. Return up Coggers Lane, over Stanage Moor and down through Ringinglow.

Silkstone Common/TPT (Grade 2)

Visits The Old Stables Coffee Shop, Silkstone Common and afterwards passes through the Thurgoland Tunnel with its wonderful echo.  Switches onto roads before the muddy section on the TPT   From Castle Gate heads out along the Five Weirs trail, then up the Blackburn Valley trail to Wentworth.  At Elsecar following the canal onto the TPT and up to Silkstone Common.  14% of the route is along off road trails on either tarmac or hard packed gravel.  Roads bikes should be ok but if you may prefer a gravel bike if you have that option.

A short steady paced ride to Eyam for coffee and cake.  Once we have escaped the confines of urban Sheffield we will use quiet country lanes.   There will be a couple of climbs, on the way out is Unthank and Jaggers and Coggers for the return journey.

Phil & Friends CTC Challenge Ride (Grade 3)

Mixed road and gravel requiring at least 28mm tyres
A challenging grade 3 ride which for the most part follows the old Phil & Friends CTC Challenge Ride of the early 00s. However, some of the roads on the original route are no longer cycle friendly/safe, so the route is modified to avoid those. Descending out of Stannington down Stacey Bank to Loxley, then left to High Bradfield, Ewden Bank and Langsett where we will take the bridleway to get onto the TPT to Dunford Bridge. From there we take the N68 for Holmebridge, the turn left to make our way up towards Holme Moss, possibly stopping in Holme if the little cafe is open.
After the amazing views of Holme Moss we will descend to the Woodhead road where we will take great care on a short section of busy road until detouring left to get back to the N68 gravel trail taking us to Hadfield (lots of cafe options here). Onto the canal path from New Mills to Whaley Bridge, up to Eccles Pike, drop to Chapel en le Frith and then onto Rushop Edge for a fast descent to Edale via Mam Nic. Cafe options available in Edale or Hope. Because it’s a long and challenging ride we may require a few cake stops which we will improvise on. From Hope we take the Hope Road to the Thornhill Trail, Ashopton Road to the A57 and then a left onto Rod Side to conclude the ride where we started in Stannington.

Heading for the Olawa Polish Bakery at Worksop, via Cresswell. circa 80km (50miles). Meet at Meadowhall - by the entrance to the Wetherspoons Foundry pub and Oasis area at 9.30 prompt. My ride takes us into Clumber via Cresswell Crags where after 20 miles, we will have a standing stop at the Visitor Centre.
We will then head over to Olawa for Lunch at 30 miles.
The route back is shorter, and total distance starting and finishing at Meadowhall is 50 miles with around 2,500 ft of climbing, which is flat by CTC standards.

A relatively easy route around the scenic Loxley Valley. There are a few hills, but the only significant one is the Blindside climb from Low Bradfield to Sugworth  Road. Once we’ve gained the height we circle around the head of the Loxley Valley enjoying panoramic views before we descend via High Bradfield to the Sheffield Garden Centre. After coffee and cake it’s a short and easy descent to Malin Bridge. For those of you who did this ride with me last year, I promise no hilly detour near the end!

Stretton Hall Farm (Grade 2)

We head out to the east of Chesterfield via Coal Aston and Brimington. We then turn south-west through Grassmoor and Tupton to reach our destination of Stretton Hall Farm at 19 miles. The return route passes Ashover Rocks before following Eastmoor then through Barlow and Holmesfield back to the start. There are a few steeper hills but these will be taken at a steady pace.

A short grade 1 with no nasty inclines before the Christmas panic. We will go along the Sheaf Valley cycle route to the back of Abbeydale park and take the climb up to Bradway. Then across to Holmsfield and Barlow before turning round at J E James, Chesterfield and heading to Appleknowle, Coal Aston and Dronfield Garden Centre. Afterwards a short run back to Sheffield.
