Don't forget lights and warm clothing for the return journey.

JACKSON BRIDGE GRADE 2
JACKSON BRIDGE GRADE 2
6 April 2025 9:30 am - 3:00 pm
Depot Bakery, Coach House, Hillsborough park
Jackson Bridge (Grade 2)
Starts: 9.30 Depot Bakery, Hillsborough Park Leader: Gareth Dent 07792 899501
Simon Warren's 100 Greatest Cycling Climbs gives the ascent from Jackson Bridge a surprising 7/10. Don't let that put you off, however, in my opinion it is much easier than Holme Moss which is rated 5/10. What it does give you is a fabulous view over the Holme Valley and a glorious long straight descent to the lunch stop at the Windmill Cafe. Meet at the Depot Cafe at 9am if you want coffee (and possibly a pain au chocolat!) for a departure at 9.30. The lunch stop is two thirds of the way round the ride, so bring a banana or other snack to keep you going. Typically the roads north west of Sheffield are quieter than further south in the Peak District and although this is a hilly ride, we will ride it at a moderate place. 64km, 1100m ascent

PENISTONE GRADE 2
PENISTONE GRADE 2
13 April 2025 9:30 am - 3:00 pm
Kollective Coffee & Kitchen, 1 Brown St, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S1 2BS, UK
Penistone(Grade 2) Starts: 9.30 Kollective Kitchen, Brown St Leader: Ang Walker 07702 034467
60km and around 700m of climbing, this 'figure of 8' route takes in six sections of traffic-free cycle route with a cafe stop at Holme Coffee House in Penistone. Starting from the Kollective Kitchen cafe (opens at 9am for coffee - ride leaves at 9.30am), the route heads out via the Five Weirs Walk to Meadowhall then picks up the Blackburn Valley Trail to Ecclesfield. Here we climb up to Grenoside, along Woodhead Road towards Wortley and drop down into Deepcar to pick up the Fox Valley Trail to Underbank Reservoir. Once around the reservoir we climb back up Mortimer Road then descend into Penistone for a cafe stop at Holme Coffee House (holmecoffeehouse.co.uk). We return via the Transpennine Trail as far as the Thurgoland tunnel, where we join the road to Deepcar and pick up the Plank gate route through Wharncliffe Woods (if it's bad weather there's an option to take the main Bitholmes road back to Oughtibridge instead). After descending Jawbone to Oughtibridge we pick up our final trail through Beeley Woods back into Sheffield. All of the trails are either surfaced or hardpacked and the route will be suitable for bikes with 28mm tyres and above. There may be some muddy sections if the weather is wet so mudguards are advised.
